In the current phase of learning, Educational technology, usually abbreviated as Ed-tech has impacted how students and people want to learn. In the present day one cannot even spend a single moment without the use of basic gadgets, be it smart phones, tablets or laptops. The Education industry has begun to depend on it in some or the other way. Using projectors in traditional classrooms, emailing assignments to students are some of the amenities Ed-Tech has provided us. Ed-Tech is expanding in a way on which we could not have single thought years ago.  Ed-techs such as virtual classrooms, mobile devices, digital readers, on-demand video, online gaming, and cloud-based LMSs (Learning Management Systems) have fed a market that has been, and continues to be hungry for innovation. Millennial (net generation) entering the learning community bring a new set of products and innovations for education. The greatest lesson they have taught us is that we must focus on speed and efficiency of learning.
The key trend in 2017 reflects how the training industry continues to evolve. And trends that we see will not flash in pan, short term or hot application –but rather, changes to the market that will have an ever lasting impact.

1. Investment in Educational Technologies:
From the past experience of when technology enters a new industry, the industry blooms. Keeping that in mind and also the factors that Ed-Techs fuel up the learning ability of the learner to consume content faster, when and how they want the content, investment in educational technology is increasing at an asymptotically high rate. Most of the investment comes from the companies which were earlier associated with education in some or the other way.

2. Ubiquity of online libraries:
Online libraries are appearing everywhere. The simple reason being, they are much more convenient to use than the traditional libraries where one is bound to follow a set number of instructions. With the aid of online libraries one can have an easy access to the books they require. With the influx of mobile devices and the demand to learn anytime and anywhere has increased the growth and use of online libraries. Having this abundance of information is surely a positive thing for learners. The training professionals easily meet out the need of learners by competencies that are more market generic. Their basic challenge remains to manage the content properly according to the needs of the learners.

3. Adaptive learning:
Identifying ways in which learning can be made innovative and efficient and at the same time minimizing the efforts of the employees is a challenge for the professionals that they need to overcome. By using adaptive learning we can reduce the time it takes the learner to become proficient, eliminating the content which they already know. Adapting learning is adapting the content to a size the learner can easily use. Content must be shortened and modified into modules according to the needs of the user.

4. Multi-modal learning:
Multi-modal learning refers to the process in which the learner tends to characterize the learning process by several modes or activities. Research related to the science of learning has taught us that one of the most effective techniques for increasing retention and application is to reinforce content over an extended period. Multi-modal learning has not only led to the easy grasping of information but has also led learners to retain what they learn for a comparatively longer period of time. Educational Technology makes a learner learn in various levels. The numbers of levels are set upon the wish of the developer.

5. Shifting to a culture of coaching:
One of the most effective ways to transfer proprietary knowledge is through mentoring and coaching. And the old saying goes true, “the best way to learn something new is to teach it to someone.” Mentoring does not only help both the parties to learn effectively but it also enables the mentor to develop leadership qualities in him. And with the evolution of Ed-Techs it has become simpler for both the mentor and the learner to have access to each other as they can place their thoughts on a common server.

6. Evolution of gaming theory and mechanics:
Game based learning enhances motivation, engagement and knowledge retention. It is now known that at the heart of every game lies a story that pulls players in, appealing to their motivation and emotions. The evolution of gaming theory has found that using the principle of storytelling and engagement is the key to appealing to learner emotions while enhancing learner engagement and recall.

Throughout the past years, we have seen that the Ed-Tech solutions have increased monotonically or rather, exponentially. And one thing we can be sure about is that in the coming years more companies will be interested in making investments in Ed-Tech which will enable learners to increase their pace of learning and will also make it affordable to everyone.
